Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Victorious Performance at Athlos Meet in New York
The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a win at the women-only Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the global championships last month, dominated an impressive victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.
"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to award the victors with their crowns.
Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. won the mile, finishing in 4:17.78.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
